Game 4: Uruguay v Saudi Arabia

Uruguay 1-0 Saudi Arabia

This was not a game that will linger long in the memory. The two main highlights were Luis Suarez scoring the games only goal on his 100th International appearance. The second highlight (if you can actually call it that) was the vastly improved performance of the Saudi team over their opening day 5-0 thrashing at the hands of the Russians.

A highlight for me was watching ex-Saint Martin Cáceres at the heart of the Uruguay defence and yes, he did look a decent player, so another player who underperformed in the last two seasons of mediocrity at Southampton. If you haven’t seen him play yet, then I guess you will see him and his Uruguayan teammates in the last 16, as this result means that they now will progress, the only question over whether as group winner, or runner up will be decided on June 25th when Uruguay play Russia in Samara.
