This group went to form then with Spain and Portugal making it through but Iran and Spain were better than I thought they’d be.

This was a funny game, but unfortunately I only caught the second half. Spain got a lucky goal when the ball bounced off Costa as he lurked with intent, but had trouble breaking down a resolute Iran side who took every opportunity to waste time and feign injury.

I was hoping to find a way of watching this game today in its entirety but I failed and was only able to catch the closing minutes on my phone while on the train.

Game 2: Portugal v Spain
Iron Man - 3 v CR7 - 3
Wow, wow and thrice wow - this was the best World Cup group game I can remember seeing. Spain didn’t seem too perturbed by the departure of Lopetegui earlier in the week and his replacement by Hierro (it’s “iron” in Spanish, you know) and Portugal had Cristiano Ronaldo on hand to dig them out of a hole. This was the main course on Friday evening and it did not disappoint.

The “good” news is that I left early and I made it home from work in time to catch most of this game. On the other hand, I used up the rest of this month’s data watching the first ten minutes on 4G on the walk home from the station. Anyway, enough about me - let’s move onto the match.
