Germany Should Do This At a Canter

Hail fellows, well met.

This should be a walkover for Germany, however, South Korea & Mexico might cause them a twitch or 2. Sweden, I suspect not so much but, even there, it's not cut and dried.

Let's start with the Germans, I married one and definitely didn't fight anybody in a war so you can tell I'm not biased ;)

Basically, they have one of the dream teams of the tournament, everybody knows that Belgium has a great squad, as do Brasil and France but, compared to Germany, I'm not sure either of them have the sheer strength in depth that the Germans possess. They have 2 of the world's current best goalkeepers, attackers that are capable of scoring a load of goals individually, let alone together, and a whole team that plays their club Football for some of the greatest teams in Europe. Saying that, their run-up was less than impressive, there are definite weaknesses in defence (I don't care what anybody says, Jerome Boateng is not a world class defender) and there is just the suspicion that maybe they are starting to run out of ideas. That being said, when was the last time anyone can remember Germany not turning up for the World Cup, I can't?

South Korea are probably shitting their pants, it's probably not got anything to do with football, just that that orange twat went over and unilaterally declared America won't protect them any more from the Commie nutters next door, but if they can get this out of their minds they usually put in a competent to excellent performance and are seldom if ever a walkover. The thing I remember best about them from world cups of the past is that they usually have someone in their team that can score Score a 40 yard thunderbolt, that could put the Hawk amongst the pigeons in any game in this group. What intrigues me most about them is they can field 5 people called Kim if they wanted to, whilst I take the merciless piss out of the Americans (and increasingly the English) that mash together names that just don't go, there is something to be said for diversity in naming practices. It's going to be close between them and Mexico but let's see if they are as disciplined as they were in previous world cups, if so, and the Wotsit hasn't fecked up their heads, I think they might edge it if Mexico don't beat Germany.

Mexico, they've got loads of players we've heard of, in fact they got loads of players we've seen in loads of world cups, this will either mean they are very familiar with each other and highly competent professionals, or it will mean that they brought a load of old crocks because they haven't got much in the way of new talent… I will be intrigued to find out which one of these it is. If they are not shit then it's entirely possible they've got the ability to come 2nd in this group, in fact, they might cause a massive upset on the first game against Germany if they are clever and good, after that, I think the Germans will take off but if Mexico can win that first game the world cup may be their mollusc.

Sweden, no, I'm not entirely sure why they're there? At first look they seem like they are the whipping boys of this group but, could well probably park the bus so they could actually produce the most boring games, let's see what they can do without the great Zlatan Ibrahimavich and his massive ego (and, unfortunately on occasion… talent…) they may well surprise and if the (usually) volatile Mexicans get frustrated against them it could prove to be interesting.

As a winner for this group, I'm going to go, unsurprisingly, for Germany.

runner-up is really up for grabs, any one of the other teams could come 2nd, they aren't all as good as each other but they all bring different approaches to the table. It should be between Mexico and South Korea, if Sweden can rattle either of those teams by unexpectedly beating either of them or even getting something from the German game, anything could happen.

If Mexico can take advantage of Germany's poor preparation games and really capitalise by playing cohesively enough to beat them, then it will get really exciting… Looking forward to it
